Charles is the son of Mariah May (Dickinson) Hawkins and James G Hawkins and the brother of Minnie Lee (Hawkins) Smith 1886–1974.  After the death of their parents the orphaned children were raised by their grandparents Samuel Cotton and Nancy (Green) Dickinson. 

 

Charles’ sister, Minnie Hawkins, married MC Smith, the brother of Hulda (Smith) Dickinson-Marshall.

Charles Hawkins, 53, reportedly burned to death when alcohol he was using as a rubbing solution was ignited by a cigar he was smoking, met death through accident.
