Barbara Ann Spooner Havens was born May 30, 1930, in Jerome, Arizona, to Robert and Alta Mae (Dickinson) Spooner. Both of her parents were members of pioneer families of the Verde Valley.
In 1945 the Spooner family moved to Coolidge, Arizona, where Barbara attended Coolidge High School. During those years she met Jack A. Havens, who would become the love of her life. The couple married in 1952.
In 1957 their daughter, Holly Lynn Havens (Martinson), was born.
Barbara devoted her life to education and teaching. She taught second grade for forty-nine years, beginning in Coolidge and later teaching in Glendale, Show Low, and Lakeside, Arizona. After nearly half a century in the classroom, she retired in 2002.
Outside of teaching, Barbara enjoyed golf, choir, fishing, and rock hunting. She was active in Delta Kappa Gamma and the Verde Valley Historical Society. These activities brought her great enjoyment and many lifelong friendships.

Jack A. Havens, 79, of Mesa, died Jan. 6, 2006.

Jack's family moved to Coolidge in 1936 where Jack graduated from high school and excelled in sports. During the "Fifties" he was a member of the popular softball team Coolidge Boosters. After military service he became an intertype operator for the Coolidge Examiner.
In 1959 he worked for Rocky Mountain Bank Note Co. and inaugurated the magnetic code on personal checks. While working for First National Bank in Pinetop he opened their first bank at Whiteriver. He served as President of the Pinetop Lions Club and was a member of Pinetop Lakes Country Club. He worked for Arizona Water Co. and retired as manager in 1985.
He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 53 years, his daughter, Holly and her husband Jerry Martinson of Pinetop.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Darlene Troutt.
